Chinese Civilization

Content Objectives:  The students will…             

1.      Recognize the importance of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties

2.      Recognize the social, political, and economic patterns of ancient China, with emphasis on the Dynastic Cycle

3.      Recognize “The Mandate of Heaven”

Behavioral Objectives:  The students will…

  1. Listen to the lecture and fill out their note packs accordingly
  2. Create a poster to illustrate China’s Dynastic Cycle

Analytical Objectives:  The students will…

  1. Explain the importance of “The Mandate of Heaven”
  2. Explain why the Dynastic Cycle occurred

Bell Ringer:  What is a dynasty?

Activate Prior Knowledge:

  1. What rivers did Chinese civilization develop along?
  2. What did natural barriers do to help China?

Deliver Instruction:

Students will follow along with the lecture in order to fill in a note packet on ancient China.  We will continue with Shang Society, Religion, Writing, and begin the Zhou Dynasty with emphasis on the Dynastic Cycle.

Group Activity:

Students will “count off” into five groups.  Each group will use a poster board and markers to create an illustration of the Dynastic Cycle.  These will be collected and graded.

Plan for Extra Time:

Students will be instructed to begin on their homework.  (probably won’t be necessary)

Homework:

Chapter 4 Section 4 Review/Assessment questions 1 and 2 AND a study guide for their 1st Six-Weeks Test.
